(Updated Information Highlighted in Red)
Pomfret: The fourth race of the 2008 WKANESPS season was held last weekend at the Tri-State Kart Club Track at Pomfret, Connecticut. Finishing positions and points have been posted. Click on the Senior Points and Junior Points buttons on the left for the latest information. Please check your information and let us know if there are any errors.
WKANESPS Survey: We're planning to do a direct mail survey of WKANESPS members in the next few weeks. The objective is to get input on the year-end banquet and ideas for the 2009 season. Please watch for this survey and take time to complete and return it.
Riverhead: The last race of the 2008 WKANESPS season will be held on October 11 & 12 at the Riverhead Speedway in Riverhead, New York. We're planning our annual, complimentary Saturday night Bar-B-Que. We're also considering money races under the lights. We'll be announcing all the details around September 1. Also, if you will need a place to stay, make reservations now as rooms fill up quickly on this weekend.
Junior Sportsman Champ Classes: Apparently there is some confusion regarding the use of the Briggs Raptor engine in the Junior Sportsman 1 and 2 Champ classes. At a national level, WKA has switched from the Raptor to the Animal engine beginning in 2008. Unlike the Junior Sportsman 1 & 2 (flat kart) classes, WKA did not provide a transition period during which both the Raptor and Animal engines could be run together. Some of our Junior Sportsman Champ competitors had planned to run their Raptors one more year and did not learn of the transition until after they had rebuilt their Raptors with the expectation of competing with them in 2008.
Although we could not help these competitors at a national level, WKANESPS has gotten approval to allow the Raptor engines to compete in the Junior Sportsman Champ classes for one more year. This exception only applies at a divisional level. Competitors running Raptor engines will not be able to transfer points for national credit. However, they will be competing for divisional points and awards. If anyone has a question about this provision, please contact WKA District 9 Trustee, Dan Stowell at dan@dmstowell.com.
Note: Raptor engines are not allowed in Junior Sportsman 1 & 2 Lite and Heavy. These are still Animal only classes.
Kid Kart Champ Class: For the past year, the Tri-State Kart Club has been developing a Kid Kart Champ Class, and this year it will be part of our regular WKANESPS program. It is also being offered at WKA national events. It is based on the standard Sportsman Champ chassis and the Subaru Robin Engine. This inexpensive engine package and rugged champ kart chassis brings lots of fun racing to our 5 to 7 year old competitors. Click on the Kid Kart Champ button for complete rules.
Sponsors and Supporters: WKANESPS sincerely thanks our 2008 Series Sponsors: Tom Bonsignore of Bonsignore Kart Shoppe , Rory West of ProKart , and Frank Bondatti of Bondatti Performance Products. We are signing up 2008 class sponsors now. Contact Tom Bonsignore for information
